We figured there is no better time to announce Summer Camp 2016 than the holiday season. We know the time and the place, the rest of the information will be on your way soon. Since we always strive for improvement, we have some exciting news for you in that department! So, here goes!
This year has been outstanding for us. Having the need to share some of the holiday atmosphere that’s surrounded us with our amazing partners, we organized the 2nd annual Netgen Winter Meetup and were visited by none other than Santa!
Earlier this month I was in New York for the eZ Innovation Board meeting. It was basically a sneak peek into the eZ Publish future with a bird's eye view. Or something like an 86th floor Empire State Building view. You have a great view and see far in the distance, but you can also look straight down, which is not very pleasant :)
Netgen story has always been about sharing - sharing knowledge, sharing experience, sharing the moments of joy and fun. One of the reasons I came here was to help with the growing marketing and event organization needs - in a fewer words, to help with the sharing. With that said, I could not have boarded the Netgen ship at a more exciting and opportune time - December, a true sharing spirited month.
While preparing this years eZ Publish Summer Camp and PHP Summer Camp we wanted to somehow capture the value that was created and share it later. In short, to extend the learning experience after the camp is over. So we organised video and audio recordings of all 3 tracks and (almost) all workshops.
Last week I participated in the JBoye Web & Intranet Conference 2013 in Aarhus, Denmark. In last few years I had the chance to be on many conferences but rarely on such perfectly organised one. You can see and feel how much experience Mr. Boye and his team have in organising events, they are really using it to their advantage.
There are many reasons why we invest so much time and effort into organizing eZ Publish Summer Camp. I will not count them here. Rather, I'll talk about a very sensitive period for the eZ community which started a year ago and will last for several years more.
A month ago we celebrated a great milestone for our company: 10 years since this adventure started. It is not just a round number that we are celebrating, it is the fact that we managed to build the company from scratch by investing only our time, knowledge and persistence.
If you'd like to know how the 3-day event on Bol went from an apprentice's point of view, read on!
We have just hit a new milestone. After opening the registrations back in May, today we finished all that we can do off site and tomorrow we are going to the Summer Camp location (Bol on island of Brač) to finish the preparations and welcome all attendees. Also, the registrations on the web site are closed too as we exceeded our expectations and there is too little time for some late guest to organize the trip.
It was late November. My colleague Vjeran and me were driving to our second office (in Osijek). Driving for few hours on a highway is an excellent opportunity to brainstorm. It is usually hard to find time to discuss some ideas as you always have some better things to do. So we brainstormed so intensely that we missed the turn and lost 20 minutes going around :)
I believe investing in our future is very important. And students are one the most important assets for the future. To prepare them better for the challenges they will face every student should get a chance to work on a real project, learning the know-how skills crucial for his career. That is why we organized the Best Code Challenge student competition held last month.
So the challenge is revealed on Tuesday 13th. Details can be found here: www.best.hr/code-challenge/v2.0/zadatak (in Croatian).
For the English speaking readers the task can be summarized in just few words: "Mobile Experience of BEST.hr". Of course there are some more details given but the essence of the task is there. I hope students will recognize it and implement the solutions according to our suggestions.
Usually I start with the event itself and mention the location at the end. This time the location really deserves to be mentioned first. In my humble opinion Lisbon was a bulls-eye decision due to the beautiful weather (sunny with almost 15 degrees Celsius) while most other parts of Europe were covered with snow and under freezing -15 degrees Celsius :). It was a great pleasure to enjoy the sun and discuss the future of eZ with other attendees.
Couple of months ago, Netgen crew decided to give its best in one particular task; we wanted to get in touch and try to agree a visit to Zagreb from one famous northerner...
Yesterday Netgen celebrated 9th birthday of the company. We had a great dinner: all of the current crew with families with bunch of children, some past members, some future members. Old stories were told, new ideas shared. It is hard to imagine that 9 years already passed. Looking forward to the next year! A decade!
It has been more than a month now from the event so the topic is no longer in the spotlight, but I will do a late recap anyway. The main reason for such a big delay was, to be completely honest, no free time whatsoever. So I hope you find this post as a nice reminder on the event.
We presented our social flavored extensions on eZ Conference in London on June 16th. The presentation covered Web Engagement Management features which will modern CMS platform like eZ Publish need to be successful in the near future.
Netgen organized the first gathering of Croatian eZ Publish developers at “Zlatni Medo”, pub in Zagreb, Croatia. We were thrilled to host this event because we got the chance to get back in touch with some old friends as well as to meet some new ones. People came from Varaždin and Osijek so the event was countrywide :)
A few notes from the eZ Winter Conference we were attending last week.
